Max-semistable laws arise as non-degenerate weak limits of suitably centered and normed maxima of i.i.d. random variables along subsequences {k(n)} such that k(n+1)/k(n)c1, in which case the common distribution function F of the i.i.d. random variables is said to belong to the domain of geometric partial attraction of the max-semistable law. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for F to belong to the domain of geometric partial attraction of a max-semistable law and investigate the structure of these domains. We show that although weak convergence does not take place along {n}=, the distributions of the maxima merge together along the entire {n} with a suitably chosen family of limiting laws. The use of merge is demonstrated by almost sure limit theorems, which are also valid along the whole {n}.  相似文献

We prove some limiting results for a Lévy process X t as t0 or t, with a view to their ultimate application in boundary crossing problems for continuous time processes. In the present paper we are mostly concerned with ideas related to relative stability and attraction to the normal distribution on the one hand and divergence to large values of the Lévy process on the other. The aim is to find analytical conditions for these kinds of behaviour which are in terms of the characteristics of the process, rather than its distribution. Some surprising results occur, especially for the case t0; for example, we may have X t /t P + (t0) (weak divergence to +), whereas X t /t a.s. (t0) is impossible (both are possible when t), and the former can occur when the negative Lévy spectral component dominates the positive, in a certain sense. Almost sure stability of X t , i.e., X t tending to a nonzero constant a.s. as t or as t0, after normalisation by a non-stochastic measurable function, reduces to the same type of convergence but with normalisation by t, thus is equivalent to strong law behaviour. Boundary crossing problems which are amenable to the methods we develop arise in areas such as sequential analysis and option pricing problems in finance.  相似文献

By considering higher-order effects, the properties of self-similar parabolic pulses propagating in the microstructured fibre amplifier with a normal group-velocity dispersion have been investigated. The numerical results indicate that the higher-order effects can badly distort self-similar parabolic pulse shape and optical spectrum, and at the same time the peak shift and oscillation appear, while the pulse still reveals highly linear chirp but grows into asymmetry. The influence of different higher-order effects on self-similar parabolic pulse propagation has been analysed. It shows that the self-steepening plays a more important role. We can manipulate the geometrical parameters of the microstructured fibre amplifier to gain a suitable dispersion and nonlinearity coefficient which will keep high-quality self-similar parabolic pulse propagation. These results are significant for the further study of self-similar parabolic pulse propagation.  相似文献

Two-center nuclear attraction integrals over Slater type orbitals with integer and noninteger principal quantum numbers in nonlined up coordinate systems have been calculated by means of formulas in our previous work (T. Özdoan and M. Orbay, Int. J. Quant. Chem. 87 (2002) 15). The computer results for integer case are in best agreement with the prior literature. On the other hand, the results for noninteger case are not compared with the literature due to the scarcity of the literature, but also compared with the limit of integer case and good agreements are obtained. The proposed algorithm for the calculation of two-center nuclear attraction integrals over Slater type orbitals with noninteger principal quantum numbers in nonlined-up coordinate systems permits to avoid the interpolation procedure used to overcome the difficulty introduced by the presence of noninteger principal quantum numbers. Finally, numerical aspects of the presented formulae are analyzed under wide range of quantum numbers, orbital exponents and internuclear distances.  相似文献

Brewster-angle reflection ellipsometry and surface optical second harmonic generation were used to study the growth of 4'-n-octyl-4-cyanobiphenyl (8CB) films evaporated in air onto polymeric and quartz glass substrates. The layer-by-layer growth of the films terminates after formation of two distinctive interfacial layers. Both of these two layers are polar and tilted. In the first layer the molecules lie nearly flat on the surface, while in the second layer they point on average about 50° toward the surface normal. The dipole moment of the second layer has a lower magnitude and an opposite direction with respect to the dipole moment of the first layer.  相似文献

In this paper, we revisit the convergence properties of the iterationprocess xk+1=xk–(xk)B(xk)–1f(xk)for minimizing a function f(x). After reviewing some classic results andintroducing the notion of strong attraction, we give necessary andsufficient conditions for a stationary point of f(x) to be a point of strongattraction for the iteration process. Not only this result gives a newalgorithmic interpretation to the classic Ostrowski theorem, but alsoprovides insight into the interesting phenomenon called selectiveminimization. Grid convergence studies for subsonic and transonic flows over airfoils are presented in order to compare the accuracy of several spatial discretizations for the compressible Navier–Stokes equations. The discretizations include the following schemes for the inviscid fluxes: (1) second-order-accurate centered differences with third-order matrix numerical dissipation, (2) the second-order convective upstream split pressure scheme (CUSP), (3) third-order upwind-biased differencing with Roe's flux-difference splitting, and (4) fourth-order centered differences with third-order matrix numerical dissipation. The first three are combined with second-order differencing for the grid metrics and viscous terms. The fourth discretization uses fourth-order differencing for the grid metrics and viscous terms, as well as higher-order approximations near boundaries and for the numerical integration used to calculate forces and moments. The results indicate that the discretization using higher-order approximations for all terms is substantially more accurate than the others, producing less than two percent numerical error in lift and drag components on grids with less than 13,000 nodes for subsonic cases and less than 18,000 nodes for transonic cases. Since the cost per grid node of all of the discretizations studied is comparable, the higher-order discretization produces solutions of a given accuracy much more efficiently than the others.  相似文献

A class of k-quantum nonlinear coherent states, i.e., the k eigenstates of the powers B k (k 3) of the annihilation operator of f-oscillators, is obtained and its completeness is investigated. An alternative method to construct them is proposed. We introduce a new kind of higher-order squeezing and sub-Poissonian distribution. The quantum statistical properties of the k states are studied. The result shows that all of the eigenstates can be generated by a linear superposition of k Roy-type nonlinear coherent states. These states may form a complete Hilbert space, and the M-th order [M = (n + 1/2)k; n = 0,1, ...] squeezing effects exist in all of the k states when k is even. There is the sub-Poissonian distribution in all of the states.  相似文献

If the centered and normalized partial sums of an i.i.d. sequence of random variables converge in distribution to a nondegenerate limit then we say that this sequence belongs to the domain of attraction of the necessarily stable limit. If we consider only the partial sums which terminate atk n wherek n+1 ck n then the sequence belongs to the domain of semistable attraction of the necessarily semistable limit. In this paper, we consider the case where the limiting distribution is nonnormal. We obtain a series representation for the partial sums which converges almost surely. This representation is based on the order statistics, and utilizes the Poisson process.
